Coladipietro won’t seek re-election

SPRINGFIELD — Rep. Franco Coladipietro announced Thursday that he won’t run for re-election to the Illinois House in 2012.

The Bloomingdale Republican said he wants to spend more time with his children, ages 6 and 8, and plans to finish his term.

“I just don’t want to miss that time,” he said.

“The job, over time, has just become more time-consuming,” he said.

Coladipietro, 43, represents the 45th House District, which includes parts of Roselle, Carol Stream, Wheaton, Glendale Heights and Bloomingdale. He started in the General Assembly in 2007.

He’s a partner at the law firm of Amari & Locallo and will continue his practice there.

Coladipietro focused on property tax issues and said he is proud of his constituent services. Now, he said he might look at local offices as ways to serve that don’t require extended trips to Springfield.

“It wasn’t an easy decision at all,” he said.

Under the new legislative maps for this year, Coladipietro would have lived in the same House district as Republican Rep. Randy Ramey of Carol Stream. So if both wanted to run for the House again without moving elsewhere, they would have had to run against each other in a primary election.

Coladipietro, however, said that didn’t factor into his decision.
