Grayslake club names scholarship winners

Submitted by Kathy Carper

The Grayslake Greenery Garden Club is proud to announce Jeremy Terlap of Gurnee and Claire Cameron of Mundelein as their 2011 scholarship winners.

Jeremy Terlap developed his interest in horticulture at a very early age. When he was 10, he started mowing lawns in his neighborhood, and by the time he was 13, he had his own neighborhood business and was able to purchase a tractor.

His passion for horticulture was established. He is now finishing his education through night school at the College of Lake County, where he is pursuing a degree in horticulture. He is described as a tireless planner, who strives to have a positive impact on others. He has made many contributions to his community and exhibits a very strong work ethic.

Claire Cameron graduated from Mundelein High School this year and will be attending The University of Wisconsin-Madison in the fall. She is an independent self-starter and leader with a remarkable work ethic.

Her love of gardening began as a child when she watched her mother work in the garden. Claire’s goal is to work as an environmental scientist and conservationist. She would like to make communities more sustainable for future generations and make a positive difference in the world.

The club would like to congratulate both of these recipients for all of their dedication and hard work. The club believes they will both leave their mark and make this world a better place through their contributions.
