A Metra train on the Union Pacific West Line struck a semitrailer truck in West Chicago Monday night causing delays but no injuries.

Inbound train No. 68 struck the truck at a crossing between the Geneva and West Chicago stations at Roosevelt Road about 9:45 p.m., said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

Reile said no passengers on the train were injured. The driver of the semitrailer was also uninjured, according to the DuPage County sheriff's office.

Metra trains on the Union Pacific West Line were delayed for about 75 minutes as the West Chicago police and fire departments responded to the scene.

Reile said it was likely that the train was traveling at a high rate of speed when it struck the truck, as the point where the impact occurred was almost directly between the two stations.

Metra train No. 68 was moving again just before 11 p.m. and was switched to an express line after dropping passengers who were not headed to Ogilvie Transportation Center off at the West Chicago station.

Passengers who were getting off before the Chicago station were picked up by a later train, Reile said.
