Learn to meditate Tuesday in Geneva

Submitted by LivingWell

On Tuesday, May 31, renowned meditation master Swami Satya Niranjan, known as Bagmarji, from Pune, India will present “Discovering Meditation in Daily Life: The Easy Way” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center, 1803 W. State St., Geneva.

“Meditation is a valuable skill that is easily available to people in their daily lives,” said Marianne Cirone, Wellness Coordinator at the LivingWell Cancer Resource Center. “It is not attached to any particular belief system, and can help to ease stress, pain, anxiety and other by-products of illness or the pressures of modern life.”

“According to Swami Niranjan, meditation basically means inner health,” states Om Johari, Ph.D., a frequent speaker and meditation teacher at LivingWell. “He teaches that the unrest we feel inside is due to too much chattering of our minds. The mind is a great mechanism as far as communication with others is concerned, but the agony is when our mind is functioning with great speed and without any direction — so much so that even in sleep it keeps on chattering by way of dreams. This is what creates the unrest situation inside us.”

Niranjan states that with meditation you are connected with your consciousness and can then rise above the directionless functioning of the mind. We can keep our minds in an “on” or “off” mode and because of this inner peace will happen on its own accord.

This program is free and open to the public, but registration is requested at (630) 262-1111.
