Runners, walkers support Shelter Inc. event

On Saturday, April 16, Shelter Inc.’s annual 5K Run/Walk 4 Kidz was held in Busse Woods, Elk Grove Village. More than 200 people participated in this event and enjoyed a pre-race warm up and post-race stretch session with FirstHealth, a scenic 5K trail, food from Caffe Baci, games, prizes and more.

Shelter Inc. is a nonprofit child welfare agency providing emergency and longer term housing for children and adolescents in the Northwest suburbs who are abused, neglected, dependent or in need of supervision.

Sean Lewis, news anchor and reporter from WGN-CLTV, emceed this year’s festivities and Chicago weatherman Tom Skilling from WGN-TV joined the walkers in the 5K.

The overall top male runner was Chris McAulisse of Chicago, and the overall top female runner was Kim Wiley of Streamwood.
