Body recovered from Des Plaines River last week identified as Rolling Meadows woman

The body found in the Des Plaines River last week has been identified as that of a 55-year-old Rolling Meadows woman who disappeared in February, authorities said.

The identity of the body found near River Grove on April 28 is that of a resident of the 5200 block of Carriage Way Drive, officials from the Cook County Medical Examiners Office said Friday morning.

Rolling Meadows Police Chief Dave Scanlan said Friday his department considers the death a suicide, based on problems the woman, a Polish immigrant, had and comments she had made to friends and relatives.

The woman was reported missing Feb. 26, and Des Plaines police later found her car just across the street from the river at Scott Nolan Center, a mental health facility affiliated with Maryville Academy.

Scanlan said it had been thought DNA matching would be needed to make an identification, which would have taken longer, but records of dental work were obtained.

The autopsy was inconclusive as to the cause of death. the medical examiner's office said, and further investigation is being done on the body.
