Round Lake-area teacher charged with sex abuse waives extradition

A Round Lake-area schoolteacher charged with sexually abusing children has waived extradition in a Wisconsin courtroom and is expected to appear for a Lake County bond hearing Friday.

Manuel Reyes, 55, of the 9900 block of 69th Street in Kenosha, is charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse following his arrest Saturday, Round Lake Beach Deputy Police Chief Rich Chiarello said.

Reyes was arrested at his home Saturday after Lake County prosecutors obtained a $100,000 warrant for his arrest.

Reyes, a third-grade teacher at Raymond Ellis Elementary School in Round Lake Beach, is accused of inappropriately touching four victims under the age of 13 between Aug. 18, 2010 and March 23, 2011, Chiarello said.

To protect the identity of the victims, Chiarello would not say whether the victims were students of Reyes’ at Ellis or where the attacks took place.

Reyes, who faces up to five years in prison on each count, is on administrative leave from Round Lake Area Unit District 116.
