For Fenton Dist. 100: Sbertoli, Umeadi, Wassinger.

Daily Herald Editorial Board

Candidates running for the three open board seats in Fenton High School District 100 share a major concern: low test scores. The school has been on academic watch for seven years. Improving that situation will take a unique balance of idealism and realism, and we see that mix in two of the incumbents seeking another term: Dave Sbertoli and Mabel Umeadi. Still, the board needs new blood — and would get a healthy dose of it with either Anthony Sumner or Laura Wassinger. Sumner, who is not a parent, says he brings the taxpayer’s perspective to the board as well as a strong desire for technological advances. Wassinger has served on various school committees. We salute both, but prefer Wassinger for the passion she exudes for the students of this district. Also running are David Hermann and board President Dorothy Lange. Lange serves on the Wood Dale Park District board as well as the school board and it is our policy not to endorse candidates holding two elected posts. We endorse Sbertoli, Umeadi and Wassinger.
