Daily Herald Editorial Board

The school system in River Trails Elementary District 26 is solid, with teachers who care, administrators who lead and a school board that provides proper oversight. Four candidates are running for three board seats. We endorse active parent Frank Fiarito and incumbents Thomas Fallucca and Donna Johnson. All have solid credentials and commitments to education and fiscal restraint. We think Fiarito is a particularly strong candidate. He's been actively involved with the schools as a mentor and volunteer, and he has a broad grasp of school-related issues. We especially like his advocacy of transparency.

Fallucca and Johnson have been outstanding board members. Fallucca's perspective on finances and bullying are a strength as is Johnson's call for opening the communication between the board and the community. A fourth candidate, former District 26 clerical employee Linda Linder, seems sincere in her candidacy but less familiar with the issues.
