For Oak Grove Dist. 68: Hasler, Pirih, Yin

A sharply declining enrollment in Oak Grove Elementary District 68 will mean difficult choices for the school board, which has three open seats in the April 5 election. The only incumbent on the ballot, attorney Lane Hasler, has worked to implement new policies to prevent a scandal like last year’s theft by the former business manager. He knows how to make changes in the one-school district, and he is endorsed. Three others vying for seats offer impressive resumes and are outstanding community members. Any of them would serve well. We give the edge to Anthony Pirih, a retired telecom executive, and Pen Yin, a physician and corporate scientist with a diverse background. Pirih’s experience with large budgets and his priority on fiscal prudence would serve taxpayers well. Yin participated in the Strategic Planning Committee in 2009 and would take a critical look at curriculum to ensure student preparedness. Kim Opsahl also is a strong candidate whom we encourage to stay actively involved.
