Benefactor buys cast dinner in Schaumburg

Many members of the cast of the variety show last Friday at Schaumburg High School ran into an unexpected benefactor while eating afterward at Applebee’s in Schaumburg.

A woman with her two small kids who was eating at the restaurant told the cast members how much she and her children had enjoyed the “Rocky Horror Saxon Show” and congratulated the students on their performance.

When they went to leave, they found out just how appreciative she was. She had picked up the tab, tip and all, for 27 students — $296. And she insisted on remaining anonymous.

“I want to express my thanks to her,” said Dan Wenzel, whose son Ryan, 17, was one of the students. “How wonderful.”

“A surprising and random act of kindness,” said Schaumburg High School choir Director Tim McGlynn.

Tim Falsey, who’s worked at Applebee’s at 18 S. Roselle Road for 4 1/2 years, said he has never had someone anonymously pick up a bill that size before.
