Caregiver accused of battering 80-year-old Warrenville woman

A judge set bond Tuesday at $100,000 for an in-home caregiver accused of battering an elderly Warrenville woman.

Prosecutors said police were called to the victim's home Monday and found Jadwiga Pacholczyk-Kaczor, 56, of Palatine, slapping the 80-year-old woman and pulling her across a bed by the hair.

DuPage County Assistant State's Attorney Deborah Brewer said the victim's family had retained Pacholczyk-Kaczor as a caregiver. She later moved in, at which point the “violence escalated,” Brewer said.

According to police, Pacholczyk-Kaczor was nude from the waist down when officers responded to the victim's home Monday. In an earlier incident, prosecutors said, she is accused of leaving the victim alone in a car in a garage.

Pacholczyk-Kaczor was being held in the DuPage County jail Tuesday on charges of battery, domestic battery and aggravated battery to an elderly person. Additional charges, including elder abuse, may be filed, Brewer said.

Should the defendant post the necessary $10,000 to be released, she must have no contact with the victim or the victim's family.

“You may not go there,” Judge Liam Brennan told her. “You may not talk to her or have any other contact.”

She returns to court Dec. 20.
