Scouting Fenton girls basketball

Fenton

Coach: Tim Anderson.

Last year: 14-19, 6-4 in Metro Suburban Conference; lost in sectional semifinal.

Top players: Katherine McEvoy, sr., G; Taylor Pugliese, jr., G; Lindsay Speiden, sr., G; Alissa Whyte, fr., G; Kasey Kramer., sr., F/C.

Scouting report: Anderson has three seniors on his roster, and, boy, is he impressed with McEvoy, Kramer and Speiden. “They’re on a mission. It’s pretty obvious so far in practice,” he said. “My goodness, all three of them, their games have taken a step forward.” One reason is that they’re all buying into the concept of defense first. “Most of what we do revolves around our defense, and they love to play defense,” he said. The Bison’s leading scorer could change with each game. “I’m hoping I have about five of six kids who average 6-7 points a game,” Anderson said. Pugliese looks to be the team’s best outside shooter. But as soon as the conversation turns to offense, Anderson turns it back to defense. “I’ve got some kids who can put the ball in the basket, but I’m looking for the ones that are going to lead the team in steals,” he said.
