4 charged in Burlington fight

Three adults and a juvenile face charges of aggravated battery and mob action in the weekend beating of a 31-year-old Burlington man, police said Monday.

Anthony V. Jelinek, 31, of the 300 block of South Belmont Street, Elgin; Kathryn M. Stirber, 23, of the 200 block of James Street, Burlington; Robert G. Thater, 27, of the 500 block of Southwood Circle, Streamwood; and a 16-year-old Burlington girl were arrested about 1:40 a.m. Sunday after the fight at James and Mill streets in Burlington, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

Lt. Pat Gengler said the four suspects punched and kicked the victim, who was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin with "bumps, scrapes and bruises." Jelinek later was found to be in possession of items reported stolen earlier in the evening from the victim's home, Gengler said, but it was unclear if a burglary was related to the attack. No further details were available.

All four suspects were charged with two counts of aggravated battery and one count of mob action. The juvenile, who is not being identified because of her age, also was charged with two counts of resisting or obstructing a peace officer. Jelinek additionally was charged with one count of residential burglary.

The adult suspects are scheduled to appear in court Aug. 18.
