Grade center idea no good for the kids

We are writing to voice our opposition to the GLC plan in District 26.

Three years ago our family moved to Mt. Prospect. One of the primary factors why we moved here was so that our child would attend Indian Grove, River Trails and then Hersey (just like her mother).

We specifically purchased the home in our subdivision because it was within those school boundaries.

We believe that the experiment of converting the neighborhood schools in District 26 into GLCs would be detrimental to our children's eduction. We are not willing to put our children through such an experiment and will be considering private school options or moving to another school district if the GLC plan goes through.

Transitioning from one school to another multiple times during an early age is stressful and traumatic for young children who should be in a comforting, familiar environment. I (Katya) have fond memories of my grade school days at IG and recall how traumatic it was to "move on" to River Trails. I do not want my children to have to start at a new school every few years during their early educational lives.

In addition, the mere thought of having two or more of our children split between multiple schools while they are between the ages of 5 and 11 does not sit well with us and is another reason we could consider pulling out of the District 26 public school system.

We are strongly against the District 26 GLC plan.
