  • Heartland Voices presents its 16th Christmas program Dec 17, 2014 2:35 PM
    Heartland Voices, an Elgin-based adult choral ensemble, presents its 16th Christmas program at 3 or 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, at First United Methodist Church in Elgin, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21, at Shepherd of the Prairie Church in Huntley. Selections include the Dale Warland arrangement of the “Wexford Carol,” a 12th-century Irish carol most likely of dancing origin, and Rollo Dilworth’s “Sistah Mary,” one of a very few African-American Christmas spirituals that recounts the birth of Christ from the perspective of a slave. Heartland Voices presentations also will include works by Durufle, Powell, Spencer, Hovland, and Kirkpatrick. The music not only spans the centuries, but the many moods of Christmas.

A resident of Sedgebrook, a senior living community in Lincolnshire, Bobbie achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer inthe Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), serving in Arlington, Virginia.

    Tentative plans for the final candidates include visits on Wednesday, Dec. 10 and Thursday, Dec. 11. One candidate will visit on Wednesday and one on Thursday. The candidates will arrive in the district early afternoon and tour several schools to meet students and staff. A session to meet community members is scheduled in the Kaneland High School library from 4:15-5 p.m. on each day.

For many years, the Kaneland music and theater programs had a number of needs that the school district has not been able to fulfill due to a lack of funding. The Performing Arts Boosters has been able to meet the many smaller needs of the students and directors, but some of the larger needs have not been met.
