    Santa arrives at the mall this year at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, with Spring Hill Mall’s third annual Santa’s Arrival Parade. Several local organizations will accompany Santa in a parade route around part of Spring Hill Mall ending inside Spring Hill Mall near Santa’s Chalet.

    More than 40 Jacobs High School students enrolled in Steven Stukenberg’s AP and Honors government courses demonstrated their commitment to education by attending a legislative forum hosted by state Rep. Mike Tryon and state Sen. Karen McConnaughay on Oct. 30 at the Jacobs High School auditorium.

The award, sponsored by the Northern Kane County Chamber of Commerce, recognizes an individual who has gone above and beyond to give back to the community.

     
  • CASA Kane County puts $25,000 grant to work for kids Nov 20, 2014 2:31 PM
    CASA Kane County, a local nonprofit organization that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children, was recently awarded a $25,000 grant from the UPS Foundation, the charitable arm of UPS. The grant will be used to recruit, train, and supervise community volunteers who serve as the Court Appointed Special Advocate and Guardian ad Litem for children who have been abused or neglected in the Kane County juvenile court system.

    Huntley High School students will present “Shakespeare in Hollywood” by Ken Ludwig at 7 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, Nov. 13-15, and 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16. Directed by Steve Sturm, William Shakespeare’s classic comedy combines with Hollywood’s classic comedy in a night of love, laughter and mistaken identity. It’s 1934, and Shakespeare’s most famous fairies, Oberon and Puck, have magically materialized

     
  • Kane likely to help get I-90 interchange for Hampshire Nov 12, 2014 12:24 PM
    Kane County might contribute $300,000 toward getting a partial interchange at Interstate 90 and Brier Hill Road near Hampshire.The county board transportation committee heard a proposal Wednesday from the Hampshire village president. It will vote on a formal resolution in December. The money would be used to pay for the first two phases of engineering, which is estimated to cost $1.95 million.

    Help share hope this Thanksgiving join Lifeline Christian Church for “Food Fight for Local Families” from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17, at Brunswick Zone XL in Algonquin. For the fifth year, Lifeline Christian Church is working in conjunction with Community Unit District 300’s homeless committee to provide Thanksgiving dinner, “More Than a Meal” for the homeless students and their families.

    The Elgin Elks 737 Lodge, in cooperation with the Illinois Elks Children’s Care Corporation and Sherman Hospital, will sponsor a free children’s orthopedic assessment clinic Monday, Nov. 17, for children who do not have private health insurance.

    A whole host of diverse automotive offerings were available in 1971. Yet that year Don Sussland of Hampshire bypassed all the muscle machines and opted for a kit dune buggy to have some fun. The craftsman wanted to work on a vehicle that would test the limits of his skills and talents. He settled on a light and nimble Scorpion LT dune buggy.

    The Sisterhood of Congregation Kneseth Israel is hosting its annual Chanukah Bazaar. According to Tina Wolf, co-chairperson of the event, "We are starting off with a really big sale on opening day to move along some of our existing stock, and we will be introducing new items over the following three weekends." In addition to holiday items, the gift shop contains a wide variety of Judaica, and Jewish themed gifts.

     
  • Special event to honor veterans at West Dundee church Nov 13, 2014 11:53 AM
    A celebration to honor local veterans, past and present, will be shared at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 845 W. Main St., West Dundee, at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16. The celebration will be filled with song, personal testimonies, stories, and video presentations.

    Longtime Hampshire resident Lucille M. Eberly died Friday at age 90. For more than 40 years, she and her late husband Irvin had a beekeeping business that produced Eberly's Honey Hill.

     
  • Elgin Theatre Company presents “An Enchanting Night of Music” Nov 11, 2014 2:28 PM
    On Sunday, Nov. 16, pianist and composer Russell Stern and vocalist Linda Collins will perform "An Enchanting Night of Music," a fundraising event to support the Elgin Theatre Company, an Elgin cultural institution since 1952. Stern will perform selections from his recently released CD “Awakening” as well as selections from his first CD “Secrets of the Night.” Collins will perform classic blues, jazz, rock, and inspirational favorites, accompanied by Stern.

    Members of Grace Lutheran Church of Lily Lake will host their annual Autumn Rummage Sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 15. There will be many household items for everyone’s use, including many furniture items, seasonal decorations, Christmas lawn decorations, tools, workbench and riding lawn mower.
