The restaurant will donate 20 percent of its register receipts collected throughout the day to the Gurevitz family.

    Shock barely describes Bannockburn’s reaction to the abrupt resignation of Mayor James Barkemeyer last week amid reports he had been investigated for sexually abusing minors, a village official said Sunday. “This is something you never see coming,” said David Korer, a village trustee and its rights of way commissioner. “When we heard it, to say it took your breath away was an understatement.”

Hicks Rd., will present its 12th Annual Midtown 5K Run & Walk on Saturday, September 27, at 8:30 a.m. All proceeds benefit Bears Care, which is committed to improving the quality of life for people in the Chicagoland community, especially disadvantaged children and their families, through targeted programs supporting education, youth athletics, and medical research and health awareness programs focusing on breast and ovarian cancer. Since inception in 2002, the Midtown 5K Run & Walk has raised more than $300,000 for Bears Care, the official charity of the Chicago Bears.

On Saturday, September 6, pet owners can bring their pets to Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Boulevard in Fox Lake. On Saturday, September 27, pet owners can bring their pets to the Jewett Park Picnic Shelter, 836 Jewett Park Drive, with access from Hazel off of Waukegan Road in Deerfield.
