  • Laps With the Chaps Sunset 5K Run/Walk and Food Truck Rally Set for Oct. 18 Oct 3, 2014 5:07 PM
    Participants can still register for the fourth annual Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk and 100-Yard Dash on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. at College of DuPage. New this year is the COD Food Truck Rally from noon to 6 p.m. The rally will feature popular Chicago and DuPage mobile eateries, such as Babycakes, Bridgeport Pasty, The Calle Wagon, Chicago Pizza Boss, The Grill Chasers, Mariani’s Gelato Italiano, Pop-A-Harrys, Sweet Ride, Toasty Cheese and Yum Dum. Admission to the rally is free and open to everyone; registration for the 5K is not required. The 100-Yard Youth Chaps Dash will begin at 5 p.m. on the track and is for kids 12 and under, with two divisions being contested – ages 4 to 7 and ages 8 to 12. The Kid Zone, open from noon until 6 p.m., will feature activities for the whole family. Kids are encouraged to come in costume. All proceeds from the race will benefit the College of DuPage Student Emergency Fund, which was established to alleviate day-to-day expenses for COD students who are at risk of dropping out. Advance registration is $25 for individuals, $5 for currently enrolled COD students (limitations apply), and $5 for the 100-Yard Youth Chaps Dash. Online registration is available through 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 15. Day-of registration is $30 for individuals, $10 for currently enrolled COD students (limitations apply), and $5 for the 100-Yard Youth Chaps Dash. A $5 discount is available for Chicago Area Runners Association members for either advance or day-of registration. The 5K awards include a $200 Visa gift card for the Top Overall male and female runners and the “Middle of the Pack” winner, and all 5K race participants are eligible to win a free iPad. Registration bags include a long-sleeved technical T-shirt and a $2 Food Truck Rally voucher. Participants are welcome to form a team for the 5K. Team prizes will be awarded for the fastest team and the fan favorite. The latter will be contested at 3:40 p.m., with the winning team determined through audience participation. Team registration must be completed online by Wednesday, Oct. 15; no same-day team registration will be accepted.
