Fallen trees, damaged buildings and a lot of bad memories were remnants of the EF-1 tornado that chewed a nasty, narrow path across Lake County. The tornado moved so fast, it beat the warning sirens.

Army Ranger Joseph Dimock II, who died in Afghanistan from injuries he suffered in an ammunition holding facility explosion, was honored posthumously Friday. In a ceremony on the fifth anniversary of his death Friday, a sign on westbound Route 120 near Grayslake village limits was unveiled to mark a stetch of the highway now dedicated to Dimock.

Lincolnshire man proposes at Winter Wonderland Holiday Light Show

Lincolnshire resident Vincent Baran pulled off a big surprise last week when he popped the question to his girlfriend, licen Keaskowski, at the drive through holiday light show in Vernon Hills. The pair grew up in the area and have attended the event for years.

Illinois authors who have self-published an adult fiction book may enter the second year of the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project until Monday, Dec. 15. The Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project is being coordinated in collaboration with the Illinois Library Association and Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS) and is supported by the American Library Association Digital Content Working Group, the Public Library Association (PLA), Illinois Heartland Library System.
