VILLA PARK- Illinois National Guard members will soon be able to receive veterans status on Illinois identification cards thanks to State Senator Tom Cullerton's initiative that was signed into law today. Senate Bill 2173 addresses complaints from National Guard members not being classified as veterans since they had not been called to active duty by the President of the United States, Congress or the Governor of Illinois.

One hundred and thirty-three adults with limited English or low literacy skills are waiting for a tutor like you right now. Those adults are the parents of 94 children under the age of 12. Children of parents with low literacy skills have a 72 percent chance of being at the lowest reading levels themselves. If you can volunteer two hours per week, you can make a difference.

After 34 years at Elgin's St. John's Lutheran School, Pam Huske will be retiring at the end of July. She will be honored during worship July 31, followed by an appetizer potluck.

Nicholas Guenther, 18, of Algonquin, and Noah Ambroziak, 18, of West Dundee, were charged Sunday with disorderly conduct, according to police. They are accused of pointing a look-alike gun while sitting inside a parked vehicle in the 500 block of South First Street.
