    Long-awaited improvements that will make Brunner Forest Preserve more accessible to the public are coming later this year, with the construction of the longest single trail ever built by the Kane County Forest Preserve District. The 741-acre preserve has been open to the public since the district bought the property in 2008. However, with few land improvements, the property has a public stigma of being mostly inaccessible.

    A quick-thinking Jiffy Lube employee might have saved the life of a Pingree Grove man who suffered a severe leg injury after a crash Friday morning in West Dundee, officials said. Zeljko Ivelic was injured in the crash at routes 31 and 72. “What I knew I needed to do was stop the bleeding,” he said. “I asked another guy (nearby) for a belt, put it on his leg and tightened it up,” Mackenzy Krogh of Elgin said.

    Joseph P. Liss, 24, of Elgin, was charged Wednesday with theft, according to court records. He is accused of taking a Gucci brand wristwatch from the owner June 27. The watch is valued at more than $500. His bail was set at $30,000 in Kane County bond court, and his next court date is July 23.
