    Fireworks shows in Wauconda and Round Lake Beach will be postponed because of fire risks. Most towns in the Northwest suburbs and DuPage County plan to proceed with their shows. St. Charles will decide Monday morning whether to carry on with its show. Displays in Aurora, Bensenville, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Itasca, Lisle, Lombard, Naperville, Oak Brook, Oakbrook Terrace and Wheaton are set to go off as scheduled.

    The Illinois Association of Park Districts has recognized the Round Lake Area Park District and Richardson Adventure Farm with the Best Friend of Illinois Parks 2011 Award at this year’s Best of the Best Awards Gala. The award is for demonstrating exemplary support of a local park district by maintaining significant efforts to provide awareness and support of the value of park districts, officials said.

    The Round Lake Park District has started an adult Wiffle ball league that is fun for both players and fans. “A lot of us played Wiffle ball growing up,” said athletic supervisor Logan Rietz, who joined the league with fellow park district employees on team La Flama Blanca. “It is something different we can do here.”

    Two low-cost pet vaccination clinics are scheduled for April. The first is Saturday, April 16, at the Lindenhurst public works building, 2301 Sand Lake Road. The second is Saturday, April 30 at the Round Lake Park Districtís Robert W. Rolek Community Center, 814 Hart Road (at Hart Road and Route 134), Round Lake. Both will run from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations of pet food, litter and supplies will also be accepted to benefit Pooch Pantry, a pet food and supply source for needy families. All animals brought to the clinic must be at least 4 months old. Dogs must be leashed and cats placed in carriers. Only cash will be accepted on site.     Lake Villa’s parks and recreation department has closed and will no longer offer programs and classes to residents due to budget woes. The classes and programs were funded entirely by participation fees, but that wasn’t enough to cover costs, officials said. It operated as a village department and not a separate taxing body, such as a local park district.
