    The Autism Society of Illinois is partnering with Conant High School’s student clubs for Cupcakes for Autism and Special Olympics, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26 at the school, 700 E. Cougar Trail in Hoffman Estates. Cupcakes are $2 each or $20 for 12. There also will be free entertainment, crafts, face painting, a DJ for dancing, balloon artist, meet-and-greet with the band 7th Heaven and much more.

    Twelve high school students from the Northwest suburbs pitched their business ideas this month before a panel of eight real-life investors to compete for funding at the 2nd Annual Young Entrepreneurs Academy Investor Panel Presentation Event at The Cotillion Banquets. The students presented before representatives of some of the area’s biggest companies, as well as an audience filled with family, friends and members of the community, for the opportunity to win funding for their original business ideas.

    Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 board members Thursday heard the annual update of the district’s capital improvement plan — one which promises another peak of activity during the next few years. Associate Superintendent for Business Dave Torres said there was a high level of activity from 2006 to 2009, but the busyness of the coming years — in which costs of $52.6 million are anticipated — will put several issues to rest for a very long time.

    Schaumburg High School was buzzing with school spirit as many of its own shaved their heads during a pep assembly to raise awareness and funds for children’s cancer research. The school hosted its third St. Baldrick’s shaving event on March 14 and has raised $102,390.84 to benefit the St. Baldrick’s Foundation.

    A 15-year-old Palatine boy and his father were shot and killed early Wednesday morning on the village's northeast side in what police say they are investigating as a double homicide. Luis Reynoso and his 38-year-old father, Segundo Reynoso, were found with fatal gunshot wounds in an apartment shortly after midnight.

    The Varsity Vikettes at Fremd High School had a busy season. The team, which is coached by Shana Dinham, began competing in the fall with the Viking Marching Band. Highlights of the team’s season included performing in the Illini Marching Band Festival at the University of Illinois and securing a second place finish in state competition.
