  • St. Viator smoothly passes another road test Dec 16, 2012 12:14 AM
You won't see too many boys basketball teams have as good a weekend as St. Viator just wrapped up. One night after winning at conference rival Marist, St. Viator notched an equally impressive road win in beating a tough Loyola squad 57-53 in the CCL/ESCC Challenge. "It's huge because we are just starting to figure out how good we can be," said St. Viator coach Mike Howland. "I thought we had gutsy efforts and we grinded out wins. That's really what playing on the road is all about."

  • Jackson, Glenbard North finish the job Nov 17, 2012 8:01 PM
When Glenbard North's 2011 football campaign closed with a Class 8A semifinal loss to Loyola Academy, running back Justin Jackson felt like he had not contributed enough to his team. After this year's semifinal — again against Loyola on Saturday afternoon in Wilmette — you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who felt Jackson could have done anymore than he did this time around. After all, the Panthers junior scored 4 touchdowns, played stellar on defense and helped Glenbard North hold off a late Ramblers rally for a 27-24 win and a spot in next weekend's Class 8A championship game against either Neuqua Valley or Mt. Carmel.

  • This group of Pirates was special Nov 10, 2012 10:06 PM

  • Sullivan, Loyola defense stop Palatine Nov 10, 2012 10:02 PM
For the first time all season, the Palatine offense was stymied. The Pirates entered Saturday afternoon's contest at Hoerster Field at Sachs Stadium scoring 44 points per game, but a sound Loyola defense forced Palatine into 4 turnovers and held them without an offensive touchdown to earn a 19-7 win in the Class 8A quarterfinals. Palatine (10-2) finished with a season-low 193 yards of offense, more than 100 fewer than its previous low.

  • Loyola’s long drives do in Bartlett Nov 3, 2012 8:36 PM
No. 10 Bartlett's defensive game plan against No. 2 Loyola Academy was to eliminate big plays at the expense of allowing multiple short-yardage passes. The Ramblers said no problem. Senior quarterback Peter Pujals patiently dissected the Bartlett defense by completing 31 of 45 pass attempts for 267 yards as the Ramblers manufactured six separate drives of 12 or more plays to post a 31-7 victory in a Class 8A second-round playoff matchup at Millennium Field in Streamwood Saturday afternoon.

  • Loyola presents Bartlett quite a challenge Nov 2, 2012 9:54 PM
The Bartlett defense registered its second shutout of the season last week in a 14-0 victory at Leyden, but the Hawks' second-round playoff opponent presents a far greater challenge. No. 2 Loyola Academy (9-1), the 2011 state runner-up to Bolingbrook, brings an offense averaging 36.6 points and 354.6 yards per game to Millennium Field for a Class 8A matchup against No. 10 Bartlett (7-3) today at 1:30 p.m.
