  • Old forest preserve headquarters site headed back to its natural state Sep 5, 2014 4:26 PM
    The remains of an old house destroyed Thursday by fire were plowed into the basement and restoration of the site in the Independence Grove Forest Preserve is expected soon. For 35 years, the former home served as headquarters for the Lake County Forest Preserve District. It was scheduled to be demolished but flared after a fire training exercise.

The restaurant will donate 20 percent of its register receipts collected throughout the day to the Gurevitz family.

    When the Encore Theatre's 16th season came to a close, Director Bob Silton had some news for the local youths who bring several shows to the stage each year. At the cast party for the final show, "Shrek: The Musical," Silton revealed that the upcoming 2014-15 season will be Encore's last. "It went completely dead quiet," Silton said. "There were a lot of tears."
