    For 385 College of Lake County students, earning a CLC Foundation scholarship last year provided funds needed to go to college. One major source of funding for Foundation scholarships is the annual scholarship gala, the Black and White Ball: Toast of the Town, on Sept. 27 at the Palmer House in downtown Chicago.

     
  • North Chicago Health Center Hosts Patient Appreciation Day Event Aug 28, 2014 4:19 PM
    The North Chicago Health Center in conjunction with the North Chicago Center for the Arts is holding a Patient Appreciation Day on Saturday, September 13, from 1 to 5 p.m. This health center, located at 2215 14th Street in North Chicago, is one of six health centers managed by the Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center. “Through this event the North Chicago Health Center is opening its doors to the community,” said Meryl Fury, the health center’s coordinator. “The event will offer plenty of fun activities but it is also an opportunity to learn more about the Health Center’s services, from general/family medicine to school physicals.” This free event is for patients of the health center and their families as well as the general public. It is designed to appeal to people of all ages. The day will include free food and beverages, a car show, yoga and Zumba classes, raffles, and music. Plenty of activities have been planned for children, such as face painting, balloon animals, a bouncy house, and story reading. The North Chicago Police Department will provide a K-9 Agility and Command Response demonstration and a safety trailer. Additionally, the Health Department will provide information tables on its Dental, Medical and Nutrition programs. Healthcare providers will provide free health information.     The Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force will hold a special luncheon that is open to the public on Monday, Sept. 8, during Suicide Prevention Week, Sept. 8-14. The event is designed to recognize the three years that the Task Force has been in existence.

    The Lake County Health Department/Community Health Center's Animal Care and Control Program is offering two low-cost pet vaccination clinics in September with one in Fox Lake and the other in Deerfield. On Saturday, September 6, pet owners can bring their pets to Lakefront Park, 71 Nippersink Boulevard in Fox Lake. On Saturday, September 27, pet owners can bring their pets to the Jewett Park Picnic Shelter, 836 Jewett Park Drive, with access from Hazel off of Waukegan Road in Deerfield.
