    Burglars entered four unlocked vehicles around 8 p.m. Dec. 5 at Centennial School on the 200 block of Stearns Road in Bartlett and stole a GPS, CDs, cellphone charger, cash, debit cards, cellphone, wedding ring and a pair of earrings. Value was estimated at $3,100.

A resident of Sedgebrook, a senior living community in Lincolnshire, Bobbie achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer inthe Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service), serving in Arlington, Virginia.

    A Schaumburg man was charged with two counts of criminal trespass to land and disorderly conduct after he threatened to blow up a bar with a grenade, according to Schaumburg police reports. He also damaged his jail cell, stopping up the toilet and trying to stop up the sink, reports said.

    Three Hanover Park trustees opposed the village’s $58.96 million budget Thursday night, arguing the village didn’t do enough to tighten purse strings. But Mayor Rodney Craig cast the tiebreaking vote allowing the 2015 blueprint to take effect.

    It was a big day Friday in the Northwest suburbs for ringing in the holiday season as four towns held Christmas tree lighting parties. Events took place in Bartlett, Des Plaines, Hanover Park and Streamwood. Only one tree lighting remains, that in Barrington, which will be held as part of a big weekend festival. The event is at 5 p.m. on Cook Street in the middle of downtown.

  • Hanover Park woman pleads guilty to aggravated battery in death of newborn Dec 4, 2014 6:33 PM
    A Hanover Park woman entered a plea of guilty Thursday to an amended charge of aggravated battery to a child in the death of her newborn in exchange for prosecutors recommending a 15-year prison sentence. The plea came as jury selection was scheduled to begin in the retrial of Jessica Cruz, 22, charged with first-degree murder, involuntary manslaughter and concealment of a homicide.

     
  • How to be a Santa to seniors in need Dec 8, 2014 1:31 PM
    Home Instead has partnered with local businesses, senior facilities and volunteers to bring gifts to seniors in need. The participating senior facilities are: ManorCare Health Services, Rolling Meadows; ManorCare Health Services, Arlington Heights; Arden Courts, Elk Grove Village; and Clare Oaks Senior Living, Bartlett. Area businesses will display Christmas trees holding ornaments bearing seniors’ first names and desired gifts. Shoppers can pick out an ornament, buy the gift and return it, unwrapped, to that location.
