As part of its 45th anniversary celebration, The Conservation Foundation is inviting 150 friends to enjoy a meal specially prepared by a gourmet chef Saturday, Aug. 12, at McDonald Farm in Naperville. While dining al fresco on the 60-acre farm not far from where some of the meal was grown, guests will be entertained by Katie Moritz, an award-winning hammered dulcimer musician.

"June collections were below required levels by more than 25 percent," said Amy Smith of Heartland Blood Centers. "This coupled with ongoing trauma situations, including several liver transplants and pregnancy complications, has put a critical strain on the supply here in Chicago. If you have been watching the news, this is not only a Chicagoland problem, but a national problem. We are in crisis and we need you to donate now."

4-H youth donate 215 birthday bags for families in need

Birthdays are important milestones for youth, but not every family can afford a celebration. With this in mind, local 4-H Club youth gathered birthday supplies and created more than 200 "birthday bags," which were donated to community families in need.
Elmhurst garage fire causes little damage

No injuries were reported and damage was minimal in a Tuesday evening fire inside a detached garage on the 600 block of South York Road in Elmhurst, firefighters said Wednesday.
