Deerfield-based Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. said its U.S. subsidiary, Takeda America Holdings, Inc., awill acquire biopharmaceutical company Inviragen for an estimated total of $250 million. Takeda said it will make an upfront payment of $35 million, and future payments of up to $215 million that are linked to the progress of clinical development and achievement of key commercial milestones, according to a release.

A Niles woman charged with abandoning her two dogs for two weeks in a locked and foreclosed Deerfield townhouse missed court Wednesday after checking herself into a psychiatric hospital, authorities said. Debra Jaffe, 42, of the 8000 block of Greenwood Drive, was charged with two counts of aggravated cruelty to animals after being accused of abandoning her Westie mix dogs. One dog died and the other was severely malnourished.
