Documents from the Kane County sheriff's office's criminal investigation into former Coroner Chuck West paint a picture of a divided, unproductive office bordering on chaos in summer 2010 as he sought to find out who contacted authorities about allegations of criminal wrongdoing. Now, “(the office) has a whole different feel to it,” said Kane board member Mark Davoust.

Republican Rob Russell, a DuPage County Sheriff's Department sergeant, says Martinez is misleading voters with certifications from coroner's groups and that Martinez, who owns a business that decontaminates death scenes, is more like a "janitor."

A South Elgin letter to the editor: As Kane County Coroner Rob Russell would rely on his leadership and experience in the DuPage County Sheriff's department to do the proper investigation needed at a crime scene. If needed he will be the most qualified to step in and be in charge of that crime scene should no high ranking police officers be present.
