    The Cary Lions Club is sponsoring the Lions of Illinois Hearing Van and the Diabetic Retinopathy/ Macular Degeneration Van on Monday, July 21, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Both vans will be located on Route 14 in the parking lot in front of the Jewel in Cary. The free adult hearing / vision screenings takes about 10 -15 minutes each and there are no appointments necessary. The certified technicians will provide written test results for your records or to share with your health care providers.

    Joseph P. Liss, 24, of Elgin, was charged Wednesday with theft, according to court records. He is accused of taking a Gucci brand wristwatch from the owner June 27. The watch is valued at more than $500. His bail was set at $30,000 in Kane County bond court, and his next court date is July 23.

    Round Lake Middle School music teacher Javier Diaz’s enthusiasm for choir has filtered to the pupils there. Since he was hired for the 2010-11 academic year, Diaz has taken the program from eight to about 90 students. There also are two choir classes part of the daily curriculum rather than a single after-school group. “I think the kids feed off my passion for the music,” said Diaz, 34, of Lake in the Hills.
