West Chicago High drama students to put on original work 'We Just Live Here'

Drama students at West Chicago Community High School will present an original work "We Just Live Here" at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, in Weyrauch Auditorium at the school, 326 Joliet St., West Chicago.

These drama students researched, wrote, directed, and are performing this original piece of art.

The show is based on interviews with people in the school, community, and others affiliated with the West Chicago area.

It is a true reflection on what it means to live in this wonderful and diverse community.

Through moments of drama and comedy, people of all different ages come to life.

As Winter Massie states, "Each of their stories was given a moment - a snapshot into what it means for them to live here, from struggling with academics to reminiscing on times both good and bad."

The evening's writers, directors, and performers include:

• From West Chicago: Grecia Bahena, Giovanni Benitez, Ryan Castiglia, Christina Champagne, Roxanne Garcia, Eric Latham, Ruby Lebo, and Winter Massie;

• From Winfield: Matthew Stavenger and Cassandra Villa.

Assisting with the production are: Abby Carr of Carol Stream; Nathan Bradley, Delaney Flynn, and Noemi Lara, all of West Chicago; and Justin Blackburn of Winfield.

The play is coordinated by Mark Begovich. Technical direction is by Chris Jensen. Hair and makeup is by Jamie Elza.

This free event will be performed once Dec. 14.

Earlier this fall, the West Chicago Drama Club put on John Cariani's "LOVE/SICK" in September, an adaption of C.S. Lewis' 1950 fantasy novel "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" in October, and "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," an adaption of the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson 1886 gothic novella, in November.

They will be performing at the Illinois High School Association's Drama Showcase on March 8-9. In May, they will be doing a full production of the popular "Mamma Mia!"
