The Lake County Dance Showcase Comes to the Genesee Theatre
The Waukegan Arts Council will present the fourth annual Lake County Dance Showcase at 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 21, at the historic Genesee Theatre in downtown Waukegan, benefiting cultural arts in the Waukegan community. The event showcases talented dance groups from across Lake County and the Chicago area, and features a wide variety of styles including ballet, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip-hop, Irish step dancing, and more.
The LCDS provides a performance opportunity for student, pre-professional, and professional dancers. For the first time, the LCDS welcomes a professional dance company to the performance. Chicago Dance Crash, a nationally touring performance ensemble, incorporates a wide variety of styles into their original choreography.
Among the dance groups participating are Alats Dance, Ballet Folclorico Tayahua, Jazz Theatre of Illinois, Lake Forest Academy of Dance, the O'Hare School of Irish Dance, and Studio 83 Dance Academy.
"Waukegan Arts Council is proud to feature so many talented Lake County dance groups at this year's showcase," said Sally Foster, chair of the Waukegan Arts Council. "This year's performance by Chicago Dance Crash is especially exciting, because it will give our student performers the opportunity to learn from professional dancers who are creating moving, vibrant, and unique performances."
The Arts Council aims to promote the city of Waukegan as Lake County's visual and performing arts destination, taking advantage of local architectural landmarks like the Genesee Theatre, a vibrant gallery scene, and a large community of artists. Incorporating dance into its signature events is a natural extension of the Arts Council's work.
Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are general admission so be there early to get the best seats. The Theatre's Road Show Lounge will have refreshments available for purchase, and Flowers for You will be selling flower bouquets to recognize the dancers' achievements.
Tickets to the dance showcase are $10 and can be purchased at the door or in advance through EventBrite.
