'Willy Wonka Jr.' at Lake Park High School

Students participating in a two-week summer theater camp will show what they learned Thursday during a performance of "Willy Wonka, Jr."

The family musical, which combines comedy and song, will take the stage at 7 p.m. in the Lake Park East Campus Dice Auditorium at 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle.

The performance represents the culmination of a camp that includes classes in acting, singing, dancing, technical theater and more. Now it its second year, the camp has grown to involve a cast of more than 60 performers in grades five through 12 from the communities that Lake Park serves.

When Willy Wonka (sophomore Colin Payan) decides to retire, he gives Golden Tickets to five lucky kids. Augustus (Peacock Middle School sixth-grader Julian Mostowski), Violet (sophomore Lily Grosch), Veruca (freshman Samantha Casey), Mike (Roselle Middle School seventh-grader Christopher Raymond), and Charlie (Waterbury fifth-grader Marko Jacovic) tour the famous candy factory and learn lessons along the way.

Children of all ages will enjoy this 75-minute version of the classic Roald Dahl tale. Admission is free; doors open at 6:30 p.m.
