Wheaton band welcomes former Air Force conductor

The Wheaton Municipal Band's reputation for attracting outstanding conductors from across the U.S. continues.

On Thursday, July 19, the band welcomes Col. Lowell E. Graham, retired conductor of the U.S. Air Force Band, at 7:30 p.m. in Memorial Park, Karlskoga and North Wheaton avenues in downtown.

Graham is currently director of orchestral activities and conducting at the University of Texas in El Paso. He has conducted bands and orchestras all over the world, including the Air Force Band in Washington, D.C. In 2014, he was named president and CEO of the John Philip Sousa Foundation and currently is president of the American Bandmasters Association.

The program will open with "Liberty Fanfare" by John Williams and also feature "Poet and Peasant Overture" by Franz Von Suppe; "Victory at Sea" by Robert Russell Bennett; and "On the Overland Stage to El Paso" by David Hoslinger.
