Hawthorne Hill Nature Center to host Nature Scavenger Hunt for Kids to Parks Day

On Saturday, May 19, join the 1-million plus people across the country taking part in the eighth annual National Park Trust Kids to Parks Day.

It is a nationally coordinated day designed to connect kids and families with their local, state, and national parks. By discovering their public lands, kids across the country are learning about park stewardship, outdoor recreation, and history.

To celebrate this event, Elgin Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a self-guided nature scavenger hunt. This free event will be held at Hawthorne Hill Nature Center, 28 Brookside Drive in Elgin.

Families can drop by anytime between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. to participate in the nature scavenger hunt.

This fun-filled family friendly event starts with selecting a scavenger score card, then hiking the beautiful nature trails to locate items in nature.

Kids mark the items as they find them, then turn in the completed score card for a prize.

In addition to the scavenger hunt, families can also check out the nature center's interactive discovery room and nature play area. Research has shown that visiting parks helps to create a more active lifestyle and improve overall wellness.

Bring your whole family out for this fun "Kids to Parks Day" event. Hawthorne Hill Nature Center is a beautiful facility, in a beautiful park.

No need to preregister, just show up and start hunting! For information call the Hawthorne Hill Nature Center at (847) 531-7055. Visit www.cityofelgin.org or www.facebook.com/hawthornehillnature.
