South Elgin offers 50/50 parkway tree replacement program

Help reforest South Elgin by participating in the 50/50 Parkway Tree Replacement Program.

The 50/50 Parkway Tree Program was created for residents willing to share half of the cost of planting new trees along village parkways.

To participate, homeowners simply choose among different species of trees, forward an application, and the village does the rest! The tree selection includes: Accolade elm, European beech, Greenspire Little Leaf linden, hackberry, Kentucky coffee tree, northern red oak and swamp white oak.

Depending on the species selected, plantings will begin this fall or next spring.

During the planting season, the village will plant, mulch and provide a gator bag (where necessary) to assist with watering needs.

Each tree delivered is balled and burlaped with a minimum size being 2.5 inches in diameter, and will come with a two-year, full replacement warranty.

Residents are responsible for watering and care of tree after planting.

For more information, contact Karen Vanderheyden at 847-695-2742 or download a copy of the Parkway Tree Program Application on the village of South Elgin's website, www.southelgin.com.

Applications must be received by mid September for consideration this year.

Annual funding for the program is limited and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please do not send payment at this time. Once approved, residents will receive a confirmation letter with planting details and costs.
