Elgin Pet Expo features health, safety event April 14

On Saturday, April 14, the city of Elgin is hosting the Elgin Pet Expo from noon to 4 p.m. in the Exhibition Hall of Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. Learn about the pet-related services available in Elgin and surrounding communities. This event is free and open to the public. Meet pet groomers, pet food suppliers, trainers, nonprofit groups, veterinarians, and more. Enter to win raffle prizes.

The Pet Health & Safety event will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. It will be first-come, first-served; no appointment necessary.

There will be low-cost vaccinations and microchipping for pets owned by Elgin residents; a state-issued ID will be required to prove residency in Elgin.

The $50 package includes a rabies vaccine, Kane or Cook county tags and registration; and booster shots to prevent canine distemper, parvovirus, adenovirus, and para influenza virus. Due to Kane County price increases, for Kane County residents with pets older than 1 year old and not spayed or neutered, the cost will be $65.

Additional services available include: microchip for $35 or heartworm test for $25. Payment by cash only.

State law required that dogs and cats over 4 months of age be vaccinated against rabies.

Dogs and cats are welcome; they must be current on vaccinations and leashed at all times.
