Snowshoe night hike in Schaumburg Friday

Schaumburg-area residents can start off the last weekend of 2017 with a snowshoe hike around Spring Valley Nature Center.

The End of the Year Night Hike is set from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the nature center at 1111 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg.

The hike begins at the nature center building and ends at the Merkle Cabin, where hot chocolate will be served and participants are invited to share their New Year's resolutions.

"This is a great way for people to enjoy nature at night," said Environmental Education Assistant Kyle Wenz. "Not a lot of people get to experience Spring Valley in the stillness of the night since the trails close at dusk."

The hike is for people 2 and older, and is $10 for Schaumburg Park District residents and $15 for nonresidents.
