Hanover Township recognizes new U-46 principals

Hanover Township hosted its annual New Leaders in Education reception Tuesday, Dec. 5, at the Township Senior Center to recognize the six new School District U-46 principals who serve in Hanover Township.

Local elected officials from the community joined the township in welcoming the leaders in their new positions.

Principals Krystal Thomas of Elgin High School; Maria Lopez of Laurel Hill Elementary School; Abby Eklund of Lincoln Elementary School; Michelle Chapman-Simmons of Streamwood High School; Dr. Maria Valdovinos of Sunnydale Elementary School; Luis Fernando DeLeon of Tefft Middle School; and Yvette Gonzalez of Ellis Middle School were recognized for their new leadership roles.

"Our staff are in many schools working with teachers and school officials in providing direct services to students," said Hanover Township Brian P. McGuire. "This event serves as an opportunity to connect with the new principals and help put names to faces in building relationships."

This was the ninth annual event recognizing new U-46 principals.

"At U-46, we really appreciate the strong relationship that exists between Hanover Township and the district, because community support for our schools is critical to their success," said U-46 CEO Tony Sanders.

"Events like the New Leaders in Education reception and the Hanover Township Principal of the Year Award in the spring remind our staff members that they are valued and help to strengthen those bonds with the greater community."
