See xhibit on stamp collecting at Elk Grove library

The Northwest Stamp Club has an exhibit on stamp collecting up through the end of December in display cases in the lobby of the Elk Grove Village Public Library, said Richard Duda, club vice president.

The club currently has about 25 members, a number that has been shrinking as fewer young people take up stamp collecting, Duda said.

In fact, the club regularly gets inquiries from people on how to dispose of their collections, he said. The biggest growth in membership has been among Eastern Europeans, he said.

The club, which is based in Mount Prospect, holds monthly meetings at both the Arlington Heights and Elk Grove libraries. It meets in Arlington Heights at 7 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month, and in Elk Grove at 1 p.m. the second Tuesday of the month.

The club was organized in 1955 to advance stamp collecting in the Northwest suburbs. It holds auction, buy and sell, mixture nights, show and tell, swap sessions and slideshows.

Everyone is welcome, from the novice to the advanced collector. More information is at northweststampclub.org.
