South Elgin teen earns Eagle Scout
Alex Karwowski of Boy Scout Troop 13 in St. Charles will celebrate receiving the rank of Eagle Scout at a Court of Honor at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Little Home Church By the Wayside in Wayne.
Alex's Eagle project was to build and install 15 bat boxes. These boxes serve as artificial roosts for bats and were installed at three different locations in the Village of Wayne. Bat boxes encourage bat populations which help reduce mosquito populations. This creates a more sustainable and natural environment.
During his Scouting career, Alex has earned 41 Merit Badges, as well as the God and Church award, Scuba BSA award, Polar Bear award, Philmont Scout Ranch Duty to God award, Philmont Scout Ranch Wilderness Pledge Achievement, Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, and 100-mile hiking award.
Alex participates in the Broadcast, Education, and Communication Networks program through Elgin Area School District U-46 schools. He is a member of the South Elgin Marching Storm where he plays tuba. Alex is also active in the theater department at South Elgin High School.
