Elmhurst Symphony to perform 'Pied Piper Fantasy'

Flutist Mary Stolper will join the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra next month in "Pied Piper Fantasy," the second concert of its 57th season.

The performance begins at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 12, at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church, 149 W. Brush Hill Road.

The concert will feature the orchestra in Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis," Felix Mendelssohn's tribute to the Reformation in "Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 107," and Stolper and local flute students in John Corigliano's "Pied Piper Fantasy for Flute and Orchestra."

Stolper, an Elmhurst resident, is principal flute of the Grant Park Symphony Festival Orchestra and Music of the Baroque Orchestra, both in Chicago. She also acts as principal flute with the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra and the Joffrey Ballet.

Concert tickets are $35 for adults, $32 for seniors and $12 for students, and are available at elmhurstsymphony.org or by calling the box office at (630) 941-0202. Group and family rates are available, and you can save on tickets by purchasing a three- or four-concert season subscription.

Following the concert, patrons are invited to help support the orchestra by having dinner from the HB Jones Food Truck, which will be stationed in front of the main entrance to the church.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the symphony website. Seating is in the Garden Room, where beverages and desserts will be served. HB Jones will donate 15 percent of sales to the orchestra.

A "Behind the Music Stand" discussion, led by Ted Hatmaker, will be presented in advance of the concert at 1:45 p.m.
