Bartlett American Legion donates to Midwest Home for Homeless Veterans

Bartlett American Legion Post 1212 is putting to work the funds generated by its Poppy Days fundraiser. To help finance its endeavor to assist fellow veterans in time of need, Legion members position themselves at commercial establishments in the area to solicit donations in exchange for Poppies. These resources are then distributed to various organizations which provide services to veterans and their families.

For example, officers of Post 1212 presented a $2,500 check to the executive director of the Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans, based in Wheaton. This No Hero Left Behind organization provides supportive services for veterans and their families in seven Illinois counties. The Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans also provides through its Freedom Commissary, clothing, toiletries and household items, all of which are donated.

With winter coming on, the organization is concentrating on warm apparel. For those who wish to make an item and/or financial donation, call (630) 871-8387.

Bartlett American Legion Post 1212 participates in community activities as Memorial Day Walk and flag retirement ceremony; Fourth of July Parade; and the Veterans Day observance at the Bartlett Veterans Memorial, Bartlett and Stearns roads. The Post also provides flag-folding programs at schools, Scout meetings and other public events.

The American Legion Post 1212, which meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p. m. in the Bartlett Log Cabin, welcomes into membership all military veterans who honorably served their country during designated periods of conflict.
