Two share role as Montini's Bronco mascot

A pair of students, who wish to remain anonymous, will split duties this school year as Montini Catholic High School's Bronco mascot.

The two were selected after a schoolwide search for students wanting to showcase their talents and school spirit as the Bronco mascot for the fall, winter and spring sports seasons. The search was conducted by the Montini Booster Club under the direction of Dan Laughlin, a member of the Class of 1986.

The boosters sponsored a scholarship, with funds payable toward tuition to attract new talent.

The position became vacant after the graduation of four-year Bronco veteran Matthew Ernat of Lombard.

"The support from our students was quite enthusiastic," Laughlin said. "We decided we needed to hold a tryout."

In the end, the two winners stood out above the rest.

The winning students said they want to keep their identities a mystery.

"We can assure all Bronco fans that the Bronco is alive and well and will be seen at Montini school and sporting events this school year," Laughlin said.
