September is National Preparedness Month. Tornadoes, flooding, power outages or other emergencies can happen at any time. Careful planning today will ensure that residents will have what they need and be able to get any necessary assistance. The first step is putting together a basic supply kit with food, water, and any other life sustaining items required to maintain health, safety, and independence. The second step is to create a family communication plan. A variety of resources are available on the Department of Homeland Security's website at www.ready.gov.
