Maria Muldaur, Glenn Miller Band featured in Northwest Concert Series

Maria Muldaur and the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will highlight an upcoming music series in Arlington Heights. The Northwest Suburban Community Concert Association announced its 2017-18 season, with five performances at 3 p.m. on Sundays, at the Forest View Educational Center.

"Our group has been presenting concerts for almost 70 years, and this is the most exciting season we've ever had," said association President Doug Martin. "We've got great music - and a great variety - that will be incredibly entertaining and an amazing deal for our member subscribers."

The season begins on Sunday, Sept. 24, with Maria Muldaur, whose sultry hit "Midnight at the Oasis" is as enchanting today as it was years ago. Then, on Sunday, Nov. 5, Chicago's world-famous Sones de Mexico will present a whirlwind of music and dancing honoring the Mexican Day of the Dead holiday (a rollicking version of Halloween). The Day of the Dead show is too big for the auditorium; it will be moved to the Forest View Fieldhouse.

The concert series takes the winter off, and then resumes on Sunday, March 18, with the Fat Babies, a wildly entertaining and talent eight-piece band playing traditional jazz from the 1920s and 30s, when Chicago was creating the foot-tapping music that took over the world.

The Newberry Consort, a world-traveling Chicago-based ensemble that plays and sings Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque (really old) music, will charm the audience on Sunday, April 22.

And, the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra will close out the concert season on Sunday, May 20. The Glenn Miller band attracts the country's best big-band talent, and they play - and sing - all the great Miller hits including "In The Mood," "Moonlight Serenade," "Tuxedo Junction," "String of Pearls," "American Patrol," "Little Brown Jug," and more.

"I expect that many of these shows will be sellouts," said Martin, "so buying a subscription is the best way to make sure that people have seats to the Glenn Miller show." A full-season membership is $95, and can be obtained by sending a request to info@NSCCommunityConcerts.org or calling membership chairman, Sally Matzinger, at (847) 259-2378, or by stopping by the Community Education office at Forest View Educational Center. Members are entitled to bring with them for free any K-12 student, and also to attend with no extra charge Waukegan concerts presented by the Lake County Community Concert Association.
