Batavia Lions award scholarship to Rosary grad Caity Unruh

Rosary graduate Caity Unruh, Class of 2017, was presented with the John A. Rompala Scholarship from the Batavia Lions Club at Rosary's Candle Rose Honors Convocation in May.

David Dorjath of the Batavia Lions presented the scholarship. The Rompala Scholarship recognizes exceptional community service and honors Batavia Lion John A. Rompala whose passion was service to his community. The scholarship is awarded to a Batavia resident who best exemplifies unselfish service to others, especially those in need.

Some of the service projects Caity has been involved with include a gardening project at Marmion Abbey and Annunciation Parish, the Days for Girls project through Rosary's Interact Club (affiliated with Rotary International), the Halloween food drive for the Marie Wilkinson Food Pantry, and summer and winter youth girls basketball camps at Rosary High School.

Caity is the daughter of Brad and Cathy Unruh of Batavia. At Rosary, Caity was on the National Honor Society and the Honor Roll, and was named Academic All-Conference in Basketball. She will attend the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio, majoring in biology on the premedical track.

Rosary High School is a Catholic, college-preparatory high school for young women located at 901 N. Edgelawn Drive in Aurora, and sponsored by the Dominican Sisters of Springfield, Illinois.
