UBS Volunteers Bring Artistic Boost to North Suburban YMCA
A team of volunteers from the Northbrook offices of UBS applied both artistry and elbow grease to create new directional signage throughout the North Suburban YMCA. The project was complemented by a corporate donation that will provide tools and storage for a new "Maker Space" in the Y's Visual Arts Department.
Volunteers from UBS's Community Corps program spent several days at the Y creating artwork that was both beautiful and functional. Working in collaboration with Y staff members, the UBS volunteers created a directional art display to help guests navigate the building's lower level. The display included framed legends and stenciled pictures for each area of the space. In addition, volunteers painted a colorful door mural that welcomes guests to the Visual Arts Department.
The Y's new Maker Space provides young artists with the supplies and equipment to create projects of their own design in an unstructured environment. UBS provided a grant of $2400 for a cabinet to store a variety of tools and materials, including rubber mallets, pliers, hammers, a drill, wrench set, safety goggles, screwdrivers, joint pliers, artist brushes, levels, and more. Visitors also have access to the Y's Digital Media Lab to help fulfill their visions.

"Their project helps people find their way around with graphics that are bright and engaging, and the company's donation will get our new Maker Space off to a great start. We appreciate all the hard work that went into creating these great enhancements to our building."
