North Central United teams win national championship

The North Central United 13-U Girls and 14-U Boys teams recently won the U.S. Club Soccer National Cup XVI Championship, which took place in Westfield, Indiana. The teams are a part of the Select Travel program of Heart of the City, a nonprofit, youth development organization based in Waukegan.

The National Cup XVI Championship featured more than 4,000 players from 160 teams across 30 states.

To take the cup, the North Central United 13-U Girls beat Rev. GU Academy from Rosemount, Minnesota, 2-1.

Coached by Sal Gloria, the girls went undefeated throughout the tournament and scored nine goals, while only allowing two goals from opponents.

The North Central United 14-U Boys beat Seacoast United Maine from Topsham, Maine, 3-1. Coached by Sal Gloria, the boys also went undefeated throughout the tournament, scoring 11 goals while allowing only 6.

National Cup XVI Championship is the culminating event of a competition among qualifiers from 21 regional leagues.
